DST, PES, JEF and .bordado formats
Meus Bordados opens and saves the formats used by the main machines, and has its own editable format, .bordado.
The formats
- .bordado: the Meus Bordados file. It stores text, fonts, shapes and settings, all editable. This is what goes into My files.
- PES (Brother, Baby Lock): stitches and colors.
- JEF (Janome, Elna): stitches and colors.
- DST (Tajima and commercial machines): stitches and color changes only; it doesn’t store thread colors.
Convert from one format to another
- Open the file in the Viewer (or in the editor, with Open).
- Click the target format (DST, PES or JEF).
The design isn’t re-digitized: the stitches are the same as in the original file. In the editor, before saving, you can change colors, resize and add a name.
When you open a machine file in the editor
DST, PES and JEF files come in as fixed stitches, one object per color block. You can move, rotate, mirror, resize and change the color; when you resize, the density changes too. To edit stitch by stitch, use Reshape.
Tips
- Always keep the .bordado of your work. If the customer asks for another color or size, you adjust it without starting over.
- Read the full guide too: DST, PES and JEF embroidery file formats.
Common problems
I opened a DST and the colors are wrong.
DST doesn’t store colors. In the viewer, click each thread’s spool to choose the color; in the editor, select the block and pick the color from the palette.
Can I open other formats (EXP, VP3, HUS…)?
For now, Meus Bordados reads DST, PES, JEF and .bordado. Convert the file to one of these formats in the original program.
