Drawing tools
The tools are in the column to the left of the drawing area. When you pick one, the footer shows a hint on how to use it.
Select and move
- Select: click an object to select it; hold Shift to add more. Drag on empty space to lasso several. Drag the handles to resize and the dot to rotate.
- Pan: drag to move around the drawing area without changing the design. Holding the space bar does the same.
- Reshape: shows the outline’s nodes. Drag nodes and handles; right-clicking a node toggles corner and curve; double-clicking the outline adds a node; Delete removes the node.
Draw shapes
- Closed shape: left click sets a corner, right click sets a curve, and click-and-drag pulls the curve’s handles. Enter closes the shape; Backspace undoes the last point.
- Open shape: same as closed, but ends as an open line (great for running stitch). Enter finishes.
- Column A: a variable-width column. Set points in pairs, one on each side of the column. Enter finishes.
- Column C: a fixed-width satin column along a line. Enter finishes.
- Rectangle and Ellipse: drag to draw.
- Text: click where the text starts. See Text and fonts.
Angles (turning satin)
- Select a closed shape.
- Choose Angles and click both sides of the shape to set each angle line, in the order the shape should be stitched.
- On the Fills tab, choose Turning satin. At least two angle lines are needed.
Edit stitch by stitch
The To stitches button (below the object list) converts the selected object into fixed stitches. Then, with Reshape, zoom in until you see the needle holes and drag each one. Double-click between two holes to add one; Delete removes the active hole.
Heads up: Once converted to stitches, the object can no longer be edited as a shape or text. Use Undo if you change your mind.
Common problems
It says "The column needs at least two pairs of points".
In Column A, points are set in pairs (one on each side). Set at least two pairs before pressing Enter.
It says "Select a closed shape before marking the angle lines".
The Angles tool only works on a closed shape that’s already selected. Select the shape with Select and choose Angles again.
